For those of you who need a little more CANASTA in your life, we're playing at Subterranean again, on July 30th, at 9:00 pm. We're opening for Central Falls, a Chicago-based band that shares members with the raucous U.S. Maple and the austere Town and Country. Their own music (on the Truckstop label) leans toward pretty alt-country, and their first album garnered some enthusiastic reviews from magazines such as Mojo ("An understated pleasure from start to finish..."), Dusted ("The brothers Vida apply a fine sense of subtle melody and gentle movement to craft deceptively complicated pop songs...") and Magnet ("...an oblique moving breakup album well-suited to no depressives, keepers of pet sounds and those who find themselves sitting alone with nothing but shadows for company...").

Needless to say, we're very happy to be on the same bill with these scenesters. For us, it's a chance to get back in the live groove (and debut new material) while we continue to record in the studio (more word on that soon). Closing the show will be our new friends from Bloomington, Indiana, The Decanters, who incorporate banjo, accordion, trombone, trumpet and a saw (!) to create Appalachian lullabies. Our bands have decided to "trade" shows, which means that thanks to them, we'll be playing our first road gig down there in a couple months. So please come and check them out too as they make their Chicago debut... Hope to see you next Wednesday!
