Canasta on the Radio
(sent on 2003-12-03)
"The songs gradually build in a slow burn, eventually igniting a chamber-pop explosion!"
This Friday, Canasta will be playing live in the studio at WLUW 88.7 FM, the fantastic radio station of Loyola University. Tune in at 5:00 PM (fans outside Chicago can stream audio at WLUW's website) to hear us play a few songs and get interviewed by Nick Tristano of the "Full On Friday" show. (We're still carefully crafting our responses to those old chestnuts: "Where does the name come from?" and "Who are your influences?")
Canasta also popped up this week on Chicago's NPR affiliate (WBEZ 91.5 FM). On Monday's edition of its public-affairs show, "Eight Forty-Eight," host Steve Edwards gave us a brief but complimentary introduction (see above quote) and then played "Chance at Greatness," from our new EP, in its entirety. We'd have told you about the broadcast earlier, except WBEZ decided to surprise us by airing it sooner than we thought! Fortunately, you can still listen to the archived recording in RealAudio. (If you don't already have it, download the free RealOne Player.)
And of course, Saturday is still the big show at Subterranean (2011 W. North Ave.), to celebrate the release of our debut EP, "Find the Time." The show begins at 9:30 pm with openers Owen and The Like Young. Hope to see you all there!
