Canasta's Next Show + WXRT!
(sent on 2004-04-30)
Thank you to those who came out for our Empty Bottle debut this week. We had a great time opening for All City Affairs and Beauty Pill, and we heard some nice words about our new material, which is always encouraging.
If you missed the Empty Bottle show, or just can't wait to see us again, you'll be happy to know that we're playing at Subterranean on Memorial Day. We won't go on stage until 9 pm, so if you're out of town for the holiday, you'll have plenty of time to come back for the show. This time, we'll be opening for Saturday Looks Good to Me (Polyvinyl), a Detroit-based indie-pop act with a cool, summery 60s sound, and Nomo (featuring Warren Defever of His Name is Alive). And you can look forward to at least one new tune, which sometimes reminds us of Cat Power mixed by DJ Shadow. (But somehow it works!)
In other news: Canasta received its first commercial airplay, appearing on WXRT's "Local Anaesthetic" on Sunday, April 25. None of us knew about it, though, so if you happened to catch the broadcast, drop us a line and let us know what was said! Also: Just yesterday, we sold our 500th CD. As we announced at the Empty Bottle, the lucky fan will win a special prize from the band.
See you at Subterranean in a month!
