CANASTA - FRIDAY, 11/19 with ELF POWER @ SUB-T
(sent on 2004-11-02)
Happy Election Day, Canasta fans...
Thanks to everyone who came out to see us at the Double Door last week. It was certainly our biggest show so far and playing for such an attentive crowd while also getting to know some of the musicians that have inspired us made for an unforgettable night all around.
Some of you have been asking when our next appearance will be. Well, it won't be long. We'll be returning to Subterranean on Friday, November 19, for a show with playfully psychedelic popsters Elf Power! If you haven't heard them, Elf Power is part of the same Elephant 6 collective of bands that includes Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, and Apples in Stereo. And Elephant 6 has been a huge part of the indie-rock scene for the last 10 years, so we're naturally very excited to open for these guys. We hope you're excited too!
As an extra incentive, we'll be debuting a new, never-before-heard original song, as well as our spaced-out cover of Peter Schilling's "Major Tom", which has thus far, been performed only once. If that weren't enough, you'll want to make sure you arrive early so you can catch Chicago rock mainstay Thax Douglas introduce us with his new poem, "Canasta #1." Awesome.
In other news: Canasta has popped up in a few other places around town lately. We were pleased to see our photo in the "Time Out: Chicago" promotional poster that recently arrived in local mailboxes. (Thanks to Sarah Hadley for shooting it!) And our friend Dan Phillips, who records as Zapruder Point, just wrote a short appreciation of "Slow Down Chicago" on his website, under the heading "Perfect Songs." Whoa!
We hope that you all continue to support us by coming to see us live. It really means a lot!
