CANASTA - SAT. 6/25 @ E. BOTTLE w/ LONGWAVE + NEW SONG SAMPLE!
(sent on 2005-06-03)
Friends,
As we continue recording the first Canasta full-length, we'll also be popping up here and there. On Saturday, June 25, we'll be at one of our favorite clubs, the Empty Bottle, to play with BMG recording artists Longwave -- a NYC band that "unites the arty, post-punk vibes of '80s indie and new wave with the anthemic bent of '90s angst rock." NME called their last album "a storm-busting riot-clash of Sonic Youth, Ride and My Bloody Valentine," and they've toured with bands like The Strokes, The Vines, The Donnas and The Raveonettes, so we'll have to be sure to bring "the rock," as they say. Brooklynites Sam Champion, will open the show with songs that Flavorpill calls "delicately crafted, pensive" and "timeless". This is a big show for us and it could quite possibly sell out, so you might want to buy tickets in advance.
By the way, you can expect to hear at the show a song or two from the upcoming record that we've never performed live before. Plus, we might dust off some favorites that haven't been in the set for a while. So even if you've seen us recently, you'll definitely want to come check it out!
Speaking of new stuff, check out a sample clip from our version of the popular Catholic hymn, "Praise to the Lord". It's our contribution to "A Compilation of Catholic Hymns Benefiting S.N.A.P." (the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests), which is scheduled for release later this summer. It's being by assembled by the fine folks at Cherry Bomb and it looks to feature music from twenty-two of Chicago's best and brightest. Stay tuned for a full tracklisting and release date!
Hope you're all doing well, and we'll see you in a few weeks!
