CANASTA: FREE Rmx Album + Headlining B. Kitchen (Sat. 3/1) + Tourdates!

(sent on 2008-02-07)

Hi all,

We've got a lot of news to report this time around, so let's get right down to it.

Free Remix Album
First of all, Canasta is releasing a remix album called We Were Mixed Up, featuring remixes of all of the tracks from We Were Set Up by members of The Hood Internet, Office, The Fake Fictions, Brighton MA, All?, Velvetron, Crap Engine, and more. We've received most of the tracks so far, and we honestly think you're going to be blown away by the new versions of some of your favorite Canasta songs. Some are dancey, some are ambient, and some are just plain weird (but in a really good way).

Anyway, what makes this even better is that starting on Friday, Feb. 22, We Were Mixed Up will be offered as a FREE download on our website. We wanted to give back to our fans for supporting us, and we could think of no better way than to give away some awesome Canasta-related music.

Beat Kitchen Show / Flash Drive Giveaway
Even though it's a digital-only release, we're planning a "release show," too. On Saturday, March 1, we'll be headlining an 18-and-over show at the Beat Kitchen. Joining us will be our good friends (and Bloodshot recording artists) the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir. We haven't played the Beat Kitchen in over a year, so we're looking forward to returning to one of the clubs where we made our name. It will also be the first Chicago show of our new pianist, Josh Schnable, so that should be exciting, too.

And if that weren't enough, we'll be holding a raffle that night to win a flash drive emblazoned with the Canasta logo and containing our entire catalogue (Find the Time, We Were Set Up, We Were Mixed Up, various demos and compilation appearances, and a new secret bonus track). We'll be giving away five of these throughout the night, so your chances are good!

Tour Dates
Not in Chicago, you say? Well, it just so happens we have a few tour dates later this month. On Saturday, Feb. 23, we'll be in Cleveland; on Wednesday, Feb. 27, we'll be in Minneapolis; and on Friday, Feb. 29, we'll be in Kalamazoo, playing on campus at Kalamazoo College, where some of us went to school. Based on our last appearances in these cities, the shows should be a lot of fun. And at each one we'll be giving away another flash drive to a lucky audience member. Hope to see some of you there! (See below for details.)

Breakthru Radio (Streaming Live Set)
A few weeks ago, we went down to Memphis to record a session (a set of music and an interview) at the legendary Ardent Studios. That recording is now online at Breakthru Radio, where we are this week's Artist of the Week. In between songs, we talk quite a bit about songwriting and our experiences as a band, so take a listen if you're curious...

Cheers!
~Canasta
