CANASTA TOUR: 10/17 - 24 (Ames, Iowa City, Schubas, Conn., NYC + Philly)
(sent on 2008-10-09)
Greetings, fellow Americans... In an effort to ease your pain in these tough economic times, Canasta has a plan to save you money on gas! Rather than asking you all to drive to Chicago for our next show, instead, we'll be bringing our music straight to your front door! That's right, it's time again for us to hit the CMJ Music Marathon and on our way to/from NYC, we've planned a roundabout route through Ames, IA (Fri. 10/17), Iowa City (Sat. 10/18), Chicago (Sun. 10/19), Hamden, CT (Wed. 10/22), NYC (Thur. 10/23) and Philly (Fri. 10/24). "But Canasta," you may be asking, "how will you manage to afford the gas required to get all the way to my hometown?" Rock-fueled cars, my friend... rock-fueled cars. All the gory details on those dates can be found below. Come on out!
In the middle of all those dates, on Sunday, 10/19, we're stopping in Chicago for a night of non-stop pop at the always lovely Schubas. All the way from Norwich, U.K., we'll be joined by Bearsuit, about whom the late John Peel said, "In an era when almost everything is quite like something else, Bearsuit are not quite like anything." And he's right... unless you can think of something else that's like a marching band dropping acid with the Belle & Sebastian in a French discotheque. You'll also see Pale Young Gentlemen, an quintet from Madison that plays gypsy-folk-cabaret-orch-pop and with whom we've been trying to set up a show for-EVER. And if you'd turn off your Beirut and Devotchka MP3's for just one damn second, you'd realize how amazing they are. And throughout the night, the DJ's of Colour Me Pop will be spinning you senseless. The show's at 8 and Canasta's on at 9. Check it:

Finally, another Canasta tune - this time, "An Apology" - was used in another YouTube video for Barack Obama's presidential campaign. This new one is an end-of-summer wrap-up for the campaign's volunteers in the great state of Ohio. Don't worry, the song's melancholy lyrics have been removed entirely, leaving only a triumphant, inspiring pop tune. That's it for now, everybody. Take care for now and we'll see you out on the road...
