Next Thursday, 10/30, marks your first and last opportunity to see Canasta perform as the Decemberists! Start your Halloween weekend early: come to the Abbey Pub and see us do faithful renditions of the history-obsessed troubadours' most well-known tunes, including "O Valencia!", "We Both Go Down Together," and "16 Military Wives." Not enough of a musical stretch, you say? Hey - Did you spend 10 hours rehearsing for your Halloween appearance? Just so you know we're not joking around, ex-member Jeff Leverenz will be on-hand to provide extra trombone. Showtime is 8:30 PM and we're on around 11. But in between, you'll get a virtual rock n' roll hall of fame, with sets from The Flaming Lips, George Michael, Tom Waits, The Velvet Underground and Neil Young. More details below...

But if you can't make it out this week, why not join us next Thursday, 11/6? We'll be playing a benefit at Subterranean for Building with Books, an excellent organization that empowers urban U.S. high school students through in-class and intensive after-school programs. They're calling it "Schoolhouse Through Rock" and we're headlining, which means we'll be doing a long set that includes a brand new tune - an ooey-gooey, space-rock opus entitled "I Don't Know Where This Is Going." "But Canasta," you might be thinking, "I'm scared to visit outer space!" Don't worry, friend... guitarist Jeremy Beckford and his trusty board of effects pedals will serve as your intergalactic travel guide...

OK, that last sentence was ridiculous. I think I've had too much coffee. It's time to stop typing.
