CANASTA - Tommorrow (Wed.) @ Lincoln Hall w/ Horns + Mucca Pazza // Next Wed. (6/30) in Highwood, IL
(sent on 2010-06-22)
How goes it, music fans?
TOMORROW (WED. 6/23) @ LINCOLN HALL W/ A HORN SECTION & MUCCA PAZZA
We can't stress enough just how excited we are about our show tomorrow.
Lincoln Hall is quite simply
the city's best new venue. It's owned / booked by the folks over at Schubas and
it's got similarly terrific sound, atmosphere, sightlines and food... only it's
bigger! And tomorrow, we'll be there in support of the must-be-seen-to-be-believed
Mucca Pazza, Chicago's very own
"punk rock circus marching band." And since M.P. never numbers less than 20 members,
we've hired three extra horn players, in order to hold our own against their
massiveness. So don't miss this show! We're first of two at 9pm, so it ought to
be a fairly early night for you 9-to-5'ers.
NEXT WED. 6/30 @ "HIGHWOOD'S EVENING GOURMET FARMERS MARKET"
I'm gonna be honest... we don't know too much about this. In fact, I'm pretty
sure none of us have ever been to the city of Highwood. But hey, this is a
farmers market
- not a couture fashion show - so perhaps the small town vibe
will suit this nicely. We'll set-up shop across the street from
Highwood City Hall
and play not one, but two sets
(one at 5pm and another at 7). Best of all, the market is free and open
to folks of all ages. So come on out, spend the night with us and
pick up a bunch of organic radishes while you're at it.
THE FAKEOUT IS NOW AVAILABLE AT EMUSIC
To those of you who swear by emusic, please accept our apologies for the delay
in getting The Fakeout available there
(here, actually).
We've just been far too busy anonymously padding our reviews over at iTunes and
Amazon. Sorry about that. But it's there now and that's what's important. Back
to padding... Do you think "redefining pop genius as we know it"
sounds too inconspicuous?
"SLOW DOWN CHICAGO" MUSIC VIDEO TO SCREEN AT "SEEN AND HEARD" FEST
"Slow Down Chicago" is becoming the little video that could. We quickly stitched it
together a year or so ago, as a last-minute entry in a "Best Chicago Song" contest.
It didn't prevail there, but time and time again, it has popped up in film fests all
throughout the state. That's probably a testament to the talents of its director,
Alex Mechlin (who also helmed "Microphone
Song" and will shortly take on "Mexico City" to boot). The clip was just accepted
into this year's "Seen and Heard" music video showcase, which is organized by the
Chicago Filmmakers and takes place
at their screening room (5243 N. Clark St.) on Friday, July 9 at 8pm.
THE FAKEOUT SCORES A RAVE REVIEW FROM THE DEAD HUB
This review from The Dead Hub
contains one of my favorite quotes so far (along with one of my favorite photos of
Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil as a bonus). Just as the piece is coming
to a close, critic Paul Barile calls the album "a necessity for anyone who enjoys
smart music that resides at the corner of pop and art." I love it... Take that,
Dirty Projectors!
