CANASTA - Tonight @ Lincoln Hall w/ Horns + New Photos / Press!
(sent on 2010-08-13)
Comin' comin' at'cha...
REMINDER: LINCOLN HALL TONIGHT (WITH A HORN SECTION)!
I'm gonna get right to the point... we're playing
Lincoln Hall tonight and if
you haven't been to Chicago's best new venue yet, tonight's your night. We've hired
an extended horn section and tickets are just $10. It's also the very first hometown show
for our new drummer, Brian,
and besides, most of you haven't even seen Ryan and
Angie, our new-ish pianist/keyboardists,
play yet! Plus, our new buddies from downstate, Elsinore,
are headlining, as it's their record release. And not only are they a *phenomenal* live band
under normal circumstances, but for this special show, they're bringing along NINE extra
string/horn players. What more could a pop fan ask for? That's right... nothing.
In fact, just yesterday, New City's Dee Fabbricatore
recommended the gig,
saying, "Though Elsinore is the headliner, Canasta is an equally great (if not better)
reason to check out Lincoln Hall Friday night... the marriage Friday night
between both Elsinore and Canasta's nuanced pop will be a holy experience."
Whoa. The show's at 10 and Canasta plays at 10:45. See you in a few!
PHOTOS
As you may or may not have noticed, we haven't updated the "images" page of our website
since December of 2007 (when we were
photographed
next to Obama and it was *us* who looked like cardboard cut-outs. Well that's all changed now.
We just posted a metric ton of new photos, including shots from some summer fests, tourdates,
in-stores and regular club gigs. Behold!
TWO MORE EXCELLENT PRESS CLIPS!
Lastly... Let us look on with fascination as Chicago's critics continue to fall all
over one another, scrambling to come up with the best adjectives to describe The Fakeout...
Vocalo.org's Jim Derogatis calls us "the wonderful local ork-pop band that's
been working hard behind its exquisite if awkwardly titled new album"
(here),
while Loud Loop's Britni Day says, "listeners should be thanking their stars that
the band took their time on this album. Filled with detailed orchestration,
plenty of emotion, and carefully planned harmonies, this album speaks
to the layers of orchestration that Canasta can produce"
(here).
