CANASTA - 2 New Members + Champaign, IL (Tom.) + Lincoln Hall (Next Fri. 8/20)!
(sent on 2010-08-13)
Shall we begin?
MEET OUR TWO NEWEST MEMBERS: ANGIE + BRIAN!
In case you haven't noticed, the modern incarnation of Canasta shares only half of its
members with that of the Canasta from just six months ago... that means the band now
officially has 11 (!) ex-members. If we wanted, we could spend the rest of this e-mail
dissecting the reasons behind that fact. But then there'd be no time to let you know about
everything that's going on. And if there's one thing that's been consistent all these years
(apart from the quality of our music, hopefully), it's the fact that we like to stay busy.
So let's get on with it and start by introducing you to our two newest members...
keyboardist/pianist Angie Ma and
drummer Brian Palmieri! I'd
recommend getting to know them now, before they become world famous and you find yourself
valet-parking their cars. FYI - Brian's Chicago debut happens next Friday, which leads us to...
DON'T FORGET: CHAMPAIGN, IL TOMORROW (SAT. 8/14) + LINCOLN HALL NEXT FRI. (8/20)!
As we mentioned a couple weeks back, Canasta makes its Champaign-Urbana debut tomorrow (Sat.)
at the legendary Canopy Club with local
heroes Elsinore (the show will double as
their record release). If you've got U. of I. friends, please send 'em a note about the show!
And then the following week, on Fri. 8/20, both Elsinore and Canasta will be hitting the
Chicago's stunning new venue, Lincoln Hall.
And to sweeten the pot, we're bringing the horn section, so you're likely to hear stuff like
"Reading the Map Upside Down," "An Apology" and "No Diggity." Besides, if you haven't yet,
you've got to come see this place. Details below...
BEER UPDATE! (CANASTA GETS ITS OWN BREW + RETURNS TO THE LIVERY ON FRI. 9/17!)
Canasta's good friend Vanessa D'Silva is in the process of trying to start a non-profit
brewery, featuring beers named after notable Chicago figures and places of yesteryear and today.
Much to our surprise, she recently honored Canasta with its very own
dry-hopped American pale ale. We were given a few six-packs to enjoy in our sweltering
rehearsal space and they were an absolute godsend (and a tasty one at that)! Sadly, until she
gets a license to sell it, it must remain a small-batch, friends-only brew. But we'll keep you
updated as things develop. Speaking of beer, Canasta's pleased to announce we'll be returning
to our new home away from home, Benton Harbor's The Livery
on Fri. 9/17. As usual, we'll be holding court all night and playing two lengthy sets. But this
time, we're also making it the outta-town version of our record release... so it'll mark the first
time Michiganders can get their hands on The Fakeout! Details follow...
ANOTHER GREAT WRITE-UP
In other news, The Fakeout continues to garner top-notch reviews from the press.
Check out what Eric Hughes at Chicago Tunes
had to say about it ("There's so much going on... that I discover new things about it with just
about every listen... It's superb.") Up until now, we've mostly been focusing our promotional
efforts on the local media, but as we begin touring this fall (something we're working on now),
we'll also expand our PR radius to the greater Midwest and beyond. So later this year, we should
start finding out what the rest of the world thinks about our newest album. Stay tuned!
