Hard to imagine we've gotten this far into our existence without ever having played an acoustic set, but it's true. Time to change that. We'll do our very first one at Evanston's incredibly intimate Space, along with another acoustic set from none other than Trashcan Sinatras! Depending on how it goes, this may or may not ever happen again, so don't miss out! Meanwhile, we'll treat our Midwestern brethren to two shows on the road this month, including a free concert in Indy (per our promise to return more often) and our Davenport debut, which is a make-up date for our cancelation during last month's Blizzaster. WHEW... GAPERS BLOCK STILL LOVES US
It seems like only yesterday we were playing Gapers Block's 3rd Anniverary Party at The Hideout. Ok, so that was 2006... but still, playing a special show like forms the kind of bond that time can't break. So even though the lovely folks at Gapers Block hadn't yet weighed in on The Fakeout, we always knew in our heart of hearts that we'd hear their thoughts sooner or later. And lo and behold, in anticipation of our Old Town School show last week, they posted this glowing review, which exclaims, "By the time I reach the concluding track, it is hard to believe the journey Canasta has taken me on in just eleven songs. Each one endears itself to a new set of the listener’s emotions and each new instrument the band brings into the mix-- be it trombone, synth, violin, what have you--is more refreshingly unexpected than the last."
