Sain baina uu!
(That’s Mongolian for “hello.” Why Monglian? Don’t worry, I’ll explain later…)

AH, SO THAT’S WHAT A SOLD OUT LINCOLN HALL SHOW FEELS LIKE
We recently had the honor of playing a sold-out show at Lincoln Hall with Alabama Shakes, one of the most talked-about bands in recent memory! The show was a blast, the energy was electric, and the Alabama Shakes more than lived up to their face-melting reputation. It’s a shame we couldn’t invite you all to Lincoln Hall, but don’t fret, my pets, we have another exciting show to announce…

HEADLINING METRO NEXT THUR. 3/22 (W/ HORNS) AND IT’S FREEEE!
You heard right! Canasta will be providing the musical entertainment for the 16th Annual Columbia College Story Week. Thursday’s event, “Literary Rock n’ Roll: American Dreamers” brings authors Heidi W. Durrow (The Girl Who Fell from the Sky), Patricia Ann McNair (The Temple of Air) and John Sayles (A Moment in the Sun) to the legendary Metro for readings and book signings. We’ll be closing out the evening and since it’s a special occasion, we figured we’d bring out the big guns and invite our intrepid horn section to join in! So, brace yourselves for a ruddy good time and bring your friends! Remember, kids, the event is FREE and open to the public! Scroll down for details…

JUST NORTH OF CHINA AND A BIT SOUTH OF RUSSIA…
Well, Canastaans, it’s only Mid-March and 2012 has already been an action-packed roller-coaster ride through the bowels of a unicorn-infested fantasy land! The year started with January’s Midwestern Tour, then before we knew it, we were on the other side of the world. Literally. As some of you may have heard, just last month, Canasta embarked on a U.S. State Department sponsored tour of Mongolia. After nearly two years of persistent emailing, conference calls, and a healthy stack of paperwork, Canasta’s quest to participate in the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ Arts Envoy Program finally came to fruition. As you can imagine, it was a chilling (average temp was around -25F by day and worse at night), yet unforgettable experience. We were all super excited to get to share our music with the people of Mongolia and to learn a bit about their music and way of life. We’ll soon be posting the bulk of pics and video from the trip, but in the meantime, you can read our blog entries, courtesy of our friends over at Gapers Block.
